We loved our flowers they were really worth it, we weren’t sure when we were planning whether we really needed more than the bouquet and button hole, but on the day with flowers on all the tables, it was amazing they really added to the atmosphere.

My posy was all cream and white flowers including, earlicheer, freesias, lisianthiums and roses

Table Posy

Our favourite Lindt Lindor Balls were part of the decorations on the tables. Along with flowers that were smaller versions of my bridal posy, Earlicheer, Freesias, Lisianthiums, Blushing Brides and Roses

It may sound cliched but it really was the perfect day. It felt like we were in some magical world were everything went just the way we would have hoped. We had a great time! As we were driven away from the reception in our chauffeured car for a night drive up to Kings Park, we couldn’t stop smiling and saying how perfect the day had been.

Arriving at the Reception

The ceremony was wonderful, short and sweet with a few laughs, no tears just lots of love and happiness. The reception (river cruise) was fantastic, we timed it perfectly to have half of the cruise in daylight, there was even a dolphin sighted! The other half of the cruise at night with the beautiful city lights as a background. The table settings with the flowers, the old family wedding photo’s and the lindt lindor balls looked wonderful.

What I remember…Looking directly into each others eyes as we said our vows, feeling at that special yet serious moment that we were in our own world and nothing else mattered except the words of commitment we pledged. I remember how blue Scott’s eyes looked glinting in the sun and thinking how much I loved him, how wonderful it was to be getting married on such a beautiful day to such a wonderful man…

Husband and Wife .... awwww

If we were to go back in time to do it all over again we wouldn’t change a thing… We absolutely loved our wedding day!

Scott and I went to two different florist, both of which I found through google and liked their websites so decided to get quotes from that. The first florist we went to we were happy with the service but the quote was a few hundred more than we wanted to pay, most of that was in the crazy delivery price she was going to charge. I also wasn’t happy that I actually had to call to make an appointment as the email I sent to set up an appointment went unanswered, I phoned after receiving no reply for 10 days!

We decided to then try another place, Poppy’s Flowers. The service was so much better, they seemed on a whole more knowledgeable and we were much happier with the quote. Plus arranging a meeting and payment etc was all done by emails that were promptly responded to. We felt so much better after the appointment with Poppy’s, they actually showed us the flowers that they suggested, had me smell some to see if I like it, showed us ribbons, vases and pictures, very hands on. The first florist did not show us anything.

Scott and I discussed the difference between the two florists, we felt that the first was simply a retail florist, or a shopfront we couldn’t actually imagine the flowers being done there. Poppy’s was more like a  studio were real work was done and real flowers were held, the shop is in Nedlands and very cute I love it!

We are having very simple flowers mostly in creams and whites. My bridal posy will be quite small and includes, Earlicheer, Lisianthus, Freesias and spray roses. My witness and flowergirl will have a corsage of cream spray roses. Scott and his witness will each have a Freesia buttonhole backed by Camellia leaves.

The coffee tables at the reception will each have  a small fishbowl with posies of cream and white flowers basically the same as my bridal posy with the addition of blushing bride which Scott pointed out he really liked. The posies in the fishbowls will be tied so I can give them to guests to take home.

I guess every little girl dreams of an elaborate ball gown as a wedding dress. However as a grown woman I wanted a simple, comfortable, pretty evening gown that happened to be white. I knew pretty early on that I would like to get something made for me as opposed to purchasing something in a bridal store. I swear that fundamentally bridal stores only stock 5 different styles. Stiff, heavy material, corseted waists and strapless, not me at all.

I looked at wedding dresses online and found a few styles I liked of which I then narrowed it down to a top three. They were all rather similar double v neck, coming in at the waist then flowing softly, which meant I had settled on a design. I then contacted a dressmaker, whom I found through googling, emailed her a picture of what I wanted. As luck would have it she had recently completed a similar design making her job much easier when it came to the pattern of the dress.

We modified a couple of things to suit my preferences and figure and voila the process started, I think I had about 4 fittings after the initial measurements were taken. Starting with a calico dress of the design which was then fitted so all the measurements in the real dress would be correct. Then fittings in the actual material I was having, layers were added, the hem was done and I had a dress!!

I guess you could call it a grecian style dress, it is very comfortable and unlike a pile of dresses I tried on I can actually breathe in it. The dress is made of ivory silk satin with a  sea pearl silk georgette overlay. I would almost describe the dress colour as buttery, I think it is creamier than just ivory.

At first we thought we would go to Eastern Europe for our honeymoon. But then Scott saw an advertisement for a Princess Cruise through Southeast Asia we thought it would be perfect! It is 21 nights and leaves and comes back to Fremantle, stopping at 7 different Asian ports and 5 different countries. A European trip would have been great however, we think a cruise is so romantic and traditional as a honeymoon.

A cruise must be on of the easiest holidays,we don’t have to think or get maps out to figure out were we are, we can just relax and enjoy the trip, plus it is cute that our reception is on a boat we kind of have a theme going there. We decided to pay extra and get a balcony room, we were also lucky to get a free upgrade which puts us right on the top level of accomodation. We can’t wait!!!

Ideally we had wanted individual cakes for guests to take home. Unfortunately that didn’t work out and instead of trying to find someone else to make a similar thing we just decided to change our plans and go for the traditional style cake.

We went and saw Kaylee at  Cakebox . We took two pictures with us, which definitely makes the process much simpler, one of the size/shape and another of the style. We have decided on an elegant 3 tier ivory cake with sharp edges and white lace piping to match the floral design on our reception invitations. Kaylee sent us home with a box of cake samples so we could choose the flavours we wanted, which was the really fun part yummmmm!

We thought we would just have chocolate mud and  carrot cake, however we changed our minds when tasting and surprised ourselves by loving the plain butter cake in particular, as well as the lighter chocolate fudge, as opposed to the more dense mud cake. We actually gave each cake flavour (there were 8 different flavours) a score out of 5 to narrow it down. We decided to have a different flavour for each tier. The bottom tier will be chocolate fudge cake layered with ganache, second layer is butter cake layered with white ganache and the top layer will be carrot cake. So guest will basically have a choice of chocolate or vanilla, the carrot cake tier will be kept for us.

We are having a cocktail reception, last week we choose the following 10 options from the list Beaumonde Catering provided us with.

  • Spiced Minced Beef, Peanut & Basil on a Focaccia Toast with Tamarind Chutney & Roasted Cherry Tomato
  • Lamb Samosa with Coriander Chutney
  • Turkish Spiced Lamb in Spring Roll Pastry
  • Chicken, Spinach & Chestnut Wontons with Sweet Chilli Dipping Sauce
  • Chicken & Leek Filo Pastry Miniature Pie
  • Spinach, Pine Nut & Goat’s Cheese Tart
  • Tomato, Eggplant & Goat’s Cheese Tartlet
  • Miniature Beef & Shitake Mushroom Open Pies
  • Pumpkin Risotto Cake Topped with Mascarpone & Shaved Parmesan
  • Parmesan & Parsley Crusted Chicken Goujons with Aioli

We think it is a pretty good mix of food with 2 beef , 2 lamb, 3 chicken and 3 vegetarian options. Beverages will be pretty straightforward , Sauvignon Blanc Semillon and Cabernet Sauvignon  from the Sandalwood Winery Estate Reserve Collection, a sparkling wine, and three types of beers. Wedding cake will be served with coffee and tea towards the end of the reception.

Scott and I posted our wedding invitations on Sunday night! We spent Sunday afternoon putting them all together. Along with the main reception invitation we enclosed an extra details card, with a map on the back, an rsvp card with a return addressed envelope. We also included ceremony invites, also with a map on the back, to our immediate family i.e parents and siblings. Scott did a fantastic job of designing the enclosure cards and helping to assemble all the bits and pieces ready to post.
